The Mississippi River is receding and the Tunica casinos are rolling out the red carpet for their reopening. All 9 Tunica casinos will be open in time for the Memorial Day weekend and some of them are planning reopening
celebrations that you don’t want to miss.
UPDATE – SAM’S TOWN CASINO IS OPEN AS OF 4 P.M. TODAY!
Due to the hard work of the Tunica casino industry and the Tunica County Road Department, Casino Strip Boulevard will be open to the public at 4 p.m. today.
The Tunica Casino industry is making progress. We should have all the casinos reopened this week, just in time for Memorial Day weekend. The casino’s that will reopen are Hollywood Casino, Resorts Casino, Sam’s Town Casino, Fitz Casino, Harrah’s Casino Tunica and Bally’s Casino.
Tunica is open! We may not be at 100% yet, but then again who is after Ol’ Man River punches you in the gut! The Mighty Mississippi tried it’s best to keep us down, but didn’t bet on the resilience of a great state like Mississippi.

Tunica County Emergency Management officials and the Mississippi Gaming Commission are currently working with all nine Tunica County casino resorts in an effort to assess flood damage, begin the clean-up process and prepare for facility re-openings.
The Mississippi River reached its crest on the Memphis river gauge on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 47.8 feet. This is the second highest reading of the river’s level matched only by the 48.7-foot crest on February 10, 1937 and well above the great flood of 1927 that reached a level of 45.8 feet on April 23, 1927.
The staggered casino property plan implemented by the Tunica casino industry, in conjunction with Emergency Management officials and the Mississippi Gaming Commission, was completed this morning with the scheduled closing of the three casino properties located at Casino Center (Gold Strike Casino Resort, Horseshoe Casino & Hotel and Tunica Roadhouse Casino & Hotel).
The plan, put into effect on Wednesday, April 27, was designed to allow all gaming industry employees and Tunica county visitors to safely leave the unprotected side of the Mississippi River levee system well in advance of the rising water. The Mississippi Gaming Commission and gaming executives have successfully completed the extensive closure procedures that include the protection of gaming equipment and the removal of all money from each facility.
Officials from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife and Fish and the Department of Homeland Security have arrived in Tunica County to assist local law enforcement in patrolling all access points to the county’s nine casino properties. Beginning today at 2:00 p.m., only those essential gaming industry personnel along with emergency management officials will be allowed to cross the Mississippi River levee.
Please note that the Veranda and Terrace Hotels at Harrah’s property on the east side of the levee, the Harrah’s Convention Center, the Bellissimo Spa at Harrah’s, Cottonwoods Golf Course, Tunica National Golf & Tennis, and Casino Factory Shoppes are all OPEN and will remain OPEN for business as usual.

As part of the active planning by The Tunica Convention & Visitors Bureau, in cooperation with local and state emergency management personnel to ensure the safety of our visitors and employees, the below-listed casino properties will be closing on a staggered schedule based in forecasted water levels affecting access to the properties.
All visitors must be off the property by 2 p.m. on the designated day. This anticipated closing schedule is based on current forecasts and is subject to change based on weather conditions. Please note that some closing dates have shifted from the dates previously announced based on changing river conditions.
