A few weeks ago, I decided to take a Thursday and Friday off. I needed a serious break from my demanding workload and couldn’t think of a better place to escape than Tunica! I packed a weekend bag and jumped in the car for that familiar half an hour drive. Each time I go, I stay at a different hotel. Each one is like its own separate island. The casinos are different. The atmosphere is different. The rooms are different, and the food is different, too. This time I chose to stay at the Gold Strike Casino Resort for the first time. I guess I wanted to see how lucky I could be in a place whose name suggests that fortune is found within. Plus, I had heard some pretty awesome things about the hotel rooms and restaurants. (more…)
A Caribbean Stud Poker player sent me an email to as about a hair-splitter of a hand.
“ I had Ace-King-8-5-2, and the card the dealer turned face up from her hand was an Ace,” he wrote. “I made the bet, because my Ace matched his Ace. Another guy at the table told me that was the wrong play, that you bet only if one of the other three cards matches the dealer. (more…)
When someone mentions the Delta, what comes to mind? Probably The Blues, the Mississippi River, agriculture, casinos, and, of course, cotton! If you’ve visited Tunica, you can see that we rose from acres of farm land to become the great gaming destination we are today. You may have glanced at the fields of cotton on your way to one of our nine casinos and maybe even stopped to grab a little. Being that we’re not originally from the Delta area, Lisa and I wanted to learn more about cotton and experience a cotton picker for ourselves.
Nearly every wager on a double-zero roulette table gives the house a 5.26 percent edge. It makes no difference whether you bet single numbers or 18-number combinations such as red or black, or anything in between. As long as you steer clear of the five-number bet on 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3, where the house edge soars to 7.89 percent, the house expects to keep $5.26 per $100 wagered. (more…)
Fall is here! Some of my favorite things about this season are the changing leaves, cool nights wrapped in a blanket with a cup of hot cocoa, corn mazes and the State Fair.
As a kid, I remember my family going to the state fair specifically for the rodeo and then walking through the animal barns to see the horses that had just performed for us. For all you country boys and girls, it might not seem like much to be close to such a magnificent animal, but for this city girl it filled me with awe and amazement. And now as an adult, I get that same feeling when I visit the Tunica Arena & Expo Center. (more…)
I’ve mentioned in this blog that video poker payback percentages usually are changed by altering the returns on full houses and flushes. A 9-6- Jacks or Better game, which pays 9-for-1 on full houses and 6-for-1 on flushes, has a higher payback percentage than one that drops the full house-flush returns to 8-5. (more…)

Fall is upon us in the Delta. Temperatures are beginning to drop and leaves are starting to turn, and there’s no better way to mark the season than with the Delta Day Festival in Downtown Tunica’s Rivergate Park on October 29.
The fun begins at 9 a.m. and doesn’t stop until 5 p.m. for this one-day festival celebrating the heritage and history of The Delta. Free and open to the public, Delta Day offers something for everyone in the family.
When I make down a trip down the road to Tunica, I want to be sure I get the most bang for my buck. And the cluster of casinos at Casino Strip makes it easy to maximize the fun – Hollywood Casino Tunica, Resorts Casino Tunica and Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall, Tunica are located close enough together to make visiting all three a breeze.
