Every year, as Thanksgiving Day approaches, I begin to savor the thought of loads of food. However, my dreams of turkey and pecan pies are quickly disturbed by visions of my nieces and nephews running through the house screaming, my father’s suggestions that he worked harder for a living “back in the day,” my sister’s emotional outbursts about not being mom’s favorite, and my grandma’s incessant requests for me to sing her favorite song, “Islands in the Stream” (I am no Kenny Rogers).
So, this year I devised a plan of escape during the not-so-pleasant variety hour that surely happens in more homes than mine on Thanksgiving Day. I feel that it is only fair to spread the wealth and provide others with a few fun and time-consuming means of escape from their holiday woes. I have come up with a list of places you can enjoy in Tunica on your suspicious 3-hour run to “get more milk” Thanksgiving Day.
Tunica RiverPark & Museum - The Mississippi River Museum at Tunica RiverPark only closes on Christmas Day. It’s open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every other day of the year, including Thanksgiving Day. Tickets are only $5! You can also choose to go geocaching, a scavenger hunt, in the park. All you need is a GPS device (lots of cell phones have one). You can also simply take advantage of the nature walk and walk off your dinner!
Fitz Casino & Hotel Tunica – On Thanksgiving Day, Fitz Casino will host a 20X Point Value hour. Players can earn 20 times point value on any machine from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. It’s twenty times the excitement for playing some of the loosest slots in Tunica! Plus, winning a little cash can take your mind off just about anything.
Hollywood Casino Tunica - In case you haven’t eaten enough or unfortunately have had to suffer through Thanksgiving at the hands of a bad cook, have no fear! Hollywood Casino’s Epic Buffet is hosting a Thanksgiving Day Feast! For a little more than $20 you can enjoy all your traditional Thanksgiving favorites plus crab legs on Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. This is such a great idea that maybe you can convince your family not to even bother with cooking and go to the buffet instead. No cooking. No clean up! Sounds like a plan to me!
Remember, all Tunica Casinos are open on Thanksgiving Day. Regardless of your reason for escape, Tunica will still offer its usual fun, excitement and culinary delights! And, for those whose “trip to the store for milk” may result in an overnight stay, there are several casino hotels in Tunica that can accommodate you during your visit.
I sincerely hope that I have provided you with enough escape routes to thoroughly enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday. Go forth with the knowledge that, should the need arise at any time, you can always slip away to Tunica. After all, it is just down the road.
